AN INTRO TO PR

Public relations have a broad range, however my idea/concept of PR was different from what am now learning. I had no idea PR has a  wide range and  broader concept. The PR field is taking the world by storm and has drastically changed in the last four years.
With the new and improved continual growth of the social media, like Twitter, Facebook, Google, etc. has made it easy for PR practitioners to practice public relations in a broader angle. Few of the fascinating things I learned was that PR is multifaceted meaning; PR practitioners have to be skillful in different areas like research, negotiation, creativity, logistics, facilitation and problem solving.

My original ideology of PR was that its main focus was only dealing with the public, by addressing issues affecting organizations.
In present times, the PR market is changing drastically, businesses believe a successful public relations firm plays a great role in a company’s success, as the main aim of public relation is “ to achieve mutual understanding, realize organization goals and serve the public’s interest”. However I was surprise to find out PR was not ‘advertising’, my overall idea of PR was that it was another word for advertising /promoting, until I found out it is a productive and  respectful two way communication between an organization and it’s public/customers.

Being enrolled in this class, So far I feel a little bit overwhelmed but looking forward to learning effective PR skills from the instructor and my classmates. some how It’s feels like a lot of information in a small time frame but am excited. Am also looking forward to improve my writing skills and work on my interpersonal communication skills,  in order to boost my confidence in public speaking   to become  a great public relations practitioner.
